 September 20, 2015

We attended a ward in Enterprise, OR today. It was awesome. The people are so friendly. It was High Council Sunday and one of the brethren looked very young to be a High Councilor. He was introduced as a recently returned missionary. From his talk I could tell he will someday serve in such callings as a High Councilor. I want to share one of his analogies that I thought was awesome.
He told of a young boy and his father who were flying a kite. The boy was complaining about how the string holds the kite back and if there was no string the kite would sore higher and higher. The father explained that it was the string that actually allowed the kite to fly. The son wouldn't believe it and insisted it held the kite back. Finally the father said they should try an experiment. Once the kite was flying high the father let go of the string. The kite plunged to the ground. The son now believed it was the string that allowed the kite to fly.
The speaker then related the kite to us. The wind is the cares of the world blowing us too and fro. The string are the commandments or the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The more commandments we keep or principles of the Gospel we live the higher and higher we can go. They keep us grounded and centered in Christ and allow us to return to our Heavenly Father.
